Dragonfire

Possibly my favourite poem. I just love the first stanza. I've always meant to write more fantasy-based poems but what with all the prose writing I do around the subject poems just don't seem to come all that easy. Maybe in the future I'll try writing an epic or something. See how it goes...

Dragonfire burning,
Incandescent lumini,
Erupting effervescent,
Coalescing in the sky.

In the moonlight, in the shadow,
Cross the chill of starlit night,
A mighty duel ensues above,
As wyrm and dragon fight.

And scorch the ground, an ashen wind,
As death to reign they bring,
A clashing of the mightiest foes,
An aged battle-hymn.

A fight to death that none may know,
Save he who lived to tell,
Of day the skies did open up,
A burning monstrous hell.

Yet cry did they who saw the sight,
Of fire burning sky,
Twixt flame and fang the duel did cease,
As thunderous storm drew nigh.

And went their separate ways did they,
Who fought with tooth and claw,
Evading nature's angry breath,
The howling, gaping maw.

Till time doth call them back and well,
The battle doth resume,
The fight till time or death do claim,
A loser to consume.

Till then we must just sit and wait,
The battle drawing nigh,
For dragonfire burning,
Coalescing in the sky.
