A Student's Life 9

So second term is already upon us and life at Bellclose Road is still just as crazy as it's ever been. Not only are Barry and I now proud owners of matching dressing-gowns, but David has decided to reignite his long-burning passion for knitting - yes, knitting - to the point now where in he actually takes his knitting on public transport! Next time any of you find yourselves on the bus heading in the West Drayton/Heathrow direction I must ask you to watch out for a young man riding the bus doing his knitting, and if at all possible, I ask you take pity on him, and if he seems lost, perhaps guide him on his way back home. Actually, now I come to think about it, if you see the ‘TFL knitter' accompanied by another on his travels I ask that you take even more pity on his poor friend, as the chances are it's probably me, and well, if you've ever taken a journey with David anywhere, you will know it is a trial indeed. This fact is best realised in a description of what has become a fairly typical day at Bellclose Road...

You see I have found recently that though David at first glance can seem the well travelled, educated individual, he is rather susceptible to being misled and if, as I was only the other day, you ask him to lead you to Leicester Square only to find yourself led to Trafalgar Square you know you probably should have followed your initial instincts and gone in the completely opposite direction to the one David pointed you in. I did of course try to point out that Leicester Square and Trafalgar Square are in fact two totally different places, but clearly David's sense of direction was put off by the fact they both have a ‘Square' in their name!

Fifty minutes, and many wrong turnings later, David and I finally arrive at our intended destination - Leicester Square KFC, and the wonders that are out all-time favourite KFC employee, the funny old man who works there called Zandi. You know I'm not actually sure if whether the love David and I have for Zandi is safe, or indeed legal, but we now actually go out of our way whenever we are in central London to visit Leicester Square KFC just to be served by our very favourite fast-food worker. In fact we love Zandi so much we took his photo on our last visit and are currently in the process of setting up the Zandi Appreciation Society on Facebook.

Talking about Facebook, I come now nicely to the next topic of my article, and the event that took up most of the second half of the day David and I initially spent in central London. You see while David was getting us lost on a journey that would have normally taken us five minutes, Tom was back in West Drayton embarking upon the first of a four hour marathon to start on the first phases of his latest tattoo. Not content with having his calves covered in strange anime tattoos and the English Rose, he has decided to go for a tribal number covering the majority of his left shoulder, eventually expanding to cover most of his left side. While I tend to hold back on comments about his tattoos beyond ‘That's lovely', I am slightly worried by the consequences of this latest tattoo as it's meant I've had to put up with Tom walking around the house semi-naked covered in cling-film for perhaps longer than a heterosexual man should have to. To make matters worse David has been appointed Tom's official ‘dressing changer' and has spent perhaps more time than is necessary seeing to Tom's dressings and massaging his wounds. It wouldn't be so bad if Tom didn't feel the need to make the whole tattoo experience interactive in that those of you with an inclination, or indeed a morbid fascination with such things, can now go on Facebook and watch his tattoo being done in all its glory. You know I'm not actually sure which is worse: our Zandi stalking, or the Facebook tattoo videos. I'll let you make up your own minds!

And so my friends, this typical day at Bellclose Road draws to and close and this article cannot end without mention of our evening film session. Our film of choice? Power Rangers of course. You know I may be the only man my age to be able to admit this, but I had never actually seen the Power Rangers movie before now and certainly found myself being drawn in perhaps more than a grown man of my age should be. I think the Pink Ranger probably had something to do with it: either her of course, or the scantily clad Dulcea. To make matters worse, I wasn't even the only one with a growing infatuation for the characters on screen. I won't mention any names but my cling-film-wrapped companion has admitted to having a man crush on a completely different character altogether! I'll leave the rest to your imaginations...
